Skiing!

week4

This week I had the opportunity to learn how to ski! I have to admit I don’t know how to skate, rollerblade or do anything else that involves a risk factor. So I was terrified the first time I went up the bunny hill… yes thats right I was scared of the bunny hill. As I watched little children continuously pass me I tried to calm my legs from furiously shaking, so by the time I got to the bottom I took a long deserved break.

This is when my boyfriend and I decided to snowshoe up and down Wentworth for Get Up There, a fundraiser and event that raises the awareness in Nova Scotia about Colorectal Cancer. When we got back to the bottom I was determined to conquer the bunny hill! Luckily Nadine (fellow co-worker/previous ski instructor) was determined that she could teach me. I followed the pizza/frie technique (terms used for slowing down and speeding up) and also learned how to turn thanks to my very patient instructor. I can successfully ski down the bunny hill YAY!. Thanks Mike, Angela, Drew and Aaron for cheering me on and helping me along the way!

I think this little guy was trying to encourage us. It was a long hike! well worth it though, it was a beautiful hike and it was for a great cause.

Embrace Life

Beautifully shot 90-second road-safety PSA from the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership in England. Great way to do something different than the regular blood and gore shock-omercials that were use too.

Pancakes!

week3

This week I had a mad craving for pancakes! My creative partner Lindsey of like a hamster on a wheel suggested that I should make them from scratch. If you bake at all… you probably have everything you need and the recipe is pretty simple. Its hard to mess up so try adding fruit or cinnamon to flavor them up. So far my favorite pancake concoction is cinnamon and apple mmmmm.

pancakes

My pancake recipe:

2 eggs
1 1/4 c of milk
2 tsp of vanilla
3 tbsp of butter (or margarine)
1 1/2 c of all purpose flour
3/4 tsp of salt
2 tsp of baking powder
2 tbsp of sugar

Music Bomb!

I’ve just been hit with a spectacular music bomb. The Flaming Lips released their version of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon near the end of December 2009. Yes I feel a bit ashamed that I’m just now finding out about this, however it didn’t take long for me get my hands on this little musical gem. I’m actually listening to it as I write this. I have to note that I still love love love the original, however The Flaming Lips version is pretty fun, YAY tuesday!.

The Purl Stitch

week2

This week I finished my first purl stitch scarf! The purl stitch is really quite simple, its the knit stitch done backwards. What I really love about this scarf is the stripe pattern!

Purl how to:

Stripe how to:
1. Knit one row, purl the next. Do this for ten rows.
2. To get the stripe effect I duplicated the tenth row. For example if my tenth row was purl I did a second row of purl. This alternates which side the “knit look” is on.
3. Continue repeating step one and two until you have the desired length of your scarf. Don’t forget if you finish your scarf on a purl stitch you need to do a purl cast off.

Need more ink!

After a year of talking myself out of getting another tattoo I ran into Amanda Wachob’s website. I am truly smitten, the watercolor-like style is nothing short of gorgeous… yup I want one!
